Art Attack! Buddies fabulous fundraising auction is live again
23- Sep 2021-
Bidding has already begun and some items are already sold out, but there is still time to get in on the fun and fabulousness of Buddies in Bad Times' fundraising Art Attack!
Much of the action is online with the catalogue available at artattack.buddiesinbadtimes.com. The Rock Hudson Memorial Tuck Shop contains prints and items, unique and frequently erotic, from a multitude of artists. All of the Rock Hudson Memorial Tuck Shop items can be purchased right now. The Silent Auction is packed with "vouchers, gift cards, experiences and more." This section of the catalogue is ever changing as more and more donations are added. So far there is a "queer-made charcuterie board," sex toys, penis candles, workshops and webinars, lobby cards from Bruce LaBruce's LA Zombie, theatre tickets and the ultimate hair makeover courtesy of the master Mika Styles. More innovative items are guaranteed to be added.
Finally covid has relented enough that Buddies has been turned into a giant art gallery and many of the art works are viewable in person from 4 to 8pm or by appointment. The main auction event will occur live on Thursday, September 23 with Elvira Kurt hosting though bidding will also occur online. As well as the art on the walls, there is an array of spectacular art onstage for entertainment between the frenzied acquisitions. Electro-R&B artist R Flex promises an "arresting live performance" that will be "smooth, gritty and powerful." Theatrical burlesquer Dainty Smith has a unique performance planned that will undoubtedly be as moving and emotionally connecting as it will be erotic. BoylesqueTO heart(and crotch)throb El Toro will burn up the stage faster than you can burn through your savings by investing in art. Because the pandemic isn't actually over, tables for the live auction must be purchased in advance and proof of vaccination will, as required by Ontario law, be required before entering the premises.
No amount of hyperbole or superlatives on my part will compare to actually viewing the wonders available. So here is a small sampling of some that I covet for my walls, right after the requisite informational tag.
Art Attack! is on Thursday, September 23 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, 12 Alexander St, and online. buddiesinbadtimes.com
