The Seductive Sapphic Exploits of Mercedes de Acosta, Hollywood’s Greatest Lover

In her lifetime, Mercedes de Acosta wrote plays and novels and poetry. But she is best known as the lesbian who bedded many of the most beautiful Hollywood actresses of the golden age. 

Now, Blood Moon Productions has just released a scintillating biography entitled The Seductive Sapphic Exploits of Mercedes de Acosta, Hollywood’s Greatest Lover. The authors, Darwin Porter and Danforth Prince, claim that she was more successful at getting pussy than most male actors. Mercedes had affairs with Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Tallulah Bankhead, among others. She rubbed shoulders with dozens of famous names of the early half of the 20th century. She lived a life of privilege, and she was unabashedly lesbian. Her ex lovers were horrified when she published an autobiography in 1960 called Here Lies the Heart. The only thing about her that wasn’t totally fabulous is that she died in poverty in 1968. 

In 1965, de Acosta struck up a friendship with Darwin Porter. They would sit together and she would hold forth while Porter took lots of notes, so much of the information in the book is right from the source’s mouth.
