Apostles: if only all gay movies were this revved up and juicy
28 Dec 2022.
Apostles is an artsy Asian gay flick made by a talented Chinese director known as Scud, although his real name is Danny Cheng Wan-Cheung. The movie is about a dying guru who invites twelve hot guys to come hang out at his complex and generally be gorgeous and naked. It’s very horny. In fact, I wish all gay movies were this revved up and juicy. Apostles is the ultimate gay sex fantasy, smarted up with lots of philosophical stuff about Sisyphus and his boulder, and lots of slow-moving rituals in the nude, and it gets a bit Salo at the end. With its striking visuals and compelling atmosphere, it begs to be seen.
The director, now 55, said that he will retire after his next movie. A quick search showed that he has already made nine others. I’ll admit, I was so impressed with Apostles that I immediately began tracking down the others. I just love it when a publicist sends me a press release and I agree to write the story and then once I get into it I realize that I have been introduced to a phenomenal talent of which I was not previously aware. I can hardly wait to watch some of Scud’s other movies, with such enticing titles as Amphetamine, Adonis, Utopians, and Bodyshop. These flicks will really liven up my holiday viewing.
The only complaint I have is not about the movie, which is really quite good. It’s about the screener from Breaking Glass, a distribution company that sends out digital copies via Vimeo that are literally wallpapered with words and shit. I get it, it’s so dupes can’t be made from their screeners. But add in the subtitles and other text and I could hardly concentrate on what I was watching. I’m including a screen shot to prove that I’m not crazy. One simple tiny bug in the lower right-hand corner will suffice, Breaking Glass. Anyway, get your own copy of Apostles, then sit back, lube up, and enjoy the show.
Apostles is now available on most major streaming platforms and through Breaking Glass Pictures.
