Remember the viral song "What What (In My Butt)," written by the two flight attendants Samwell and his friend Mike Stasny. Released on Valentine’s Day 2006 and filmed in their Milwaukee studio, What What went on to realize almost 70 million youtube views and was mentioned on Perez Hilton, VH1, The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, CBS News, CNN, The Hollywood Reporter, TV Guide, The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, The LA Times, E! Online, MTV, VH1, The Onion, NME, Gawker and Billboard magazine. The video garnered international success, not just because of its unapologetic content but also for its addictive melody.
A year after "What What" exploded onto the scene, an episode of South Park aired that revolved around the "What What"phenomenon and featured a shot-for-shot re-creation of the video, starring Butters (a South Park character) in place of Samwell. The video later went onto Tosh.0, for an interview between the show’s host,
Daniel Tosh, and Samwell in a sauna. The interview was followed by an unplugged version of the “What What” song by Samwell and Josh Homme, lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures.
But where is Samwell now? He’s just released "Dirty Nasty Naughty Boy," a follow-up to the hit single, launching the video on TOSH in late 2018. The video takes aim at the Christian Rights movement to protect family values and is every bit as cheeky as it’s predecessor. And if that’s not enough Samwell for you, rumour is there’s a movie in the works, which if true, will likely achieve cult status before it’s even out.
