Fall for Fall For Dance North - Paul Bellini - MyGayToronto
Fall for Fall For Dance North 20 Sep 2020.
In the midst of a quarantine, even dance has to go online. The Fall for Dance North 2020 dance festival will now reach audiences worldwide through a signature live stream event, featuring six world premieres by Canadian dance makers.
“I am incredibly proud of the sixth edition of Fall for Dance North, titled 'The Flip Side,' particularly in light of the collaborative efforts of more than 100 artists and our long-time co-presenters TO Live, that helped bring an entirely new vision of our festival to life. While we’re not able to gather in theatres this year, we believe the diversity and quality synonymous with FFDN is ever present,” says FFDN Artistic Director Ilter Ibrahimof.
Some of the highlights include FLOW from the world-renowned ‘Tkaronto’-based Indigenous company Red Sky Performance. Originally from Kelowna, British Columbia, Joshua Beamish directs Proximity for his own MOVETHECOMPANY. Mafa Makhubalo creates and performs in multiple styles including the percussive gumboot dance, and leads his own Toronto-based company, Mafa Dance Village, in Dialogue with DNA.
Then Decidedly Jazz Danceworks presents Terra. Then, long-time star of The National Ballet of Canada, principal dancer Sonia Rodriguez, celebrates 31 years with the company with Poema Ibérico. Tap dance takes its place with Fool’s Gold starring Lisa La Touche. And there’s more. An Open Studio, a Big Social, Bathtub Bran, Night Shift, and Second City in The Lost Objects. Gawd! Who could resist FFDN?
