My Gay Toronto - Ray's Anatomy

Acoustic Boys & Funny Girls

by RAYMOND HELKIO -

We're Funny That Way (WFTW) just got a little more musical and a lot more intimate. Adding to the comedy line-up this year is acoustic performance Amir Brandon mixing covers and original music.

Toronto musician Amir Brandon has a collection of internationally acclaimed songs that have been widely well received. Playing an acoustic set of original songs with some unique covers with his unique spin on some popular tunes. I asked Amir about what we can expect from the coming performance, "A lot of the songs I write are about wanting/fighting for things that seem unobtainable. It's something that I think we aren't very open about in our lives because we tend to hide our weakness. My show will be an honest space where these feelings can be shared free of judgement. I'll be singing about my personal journey of finding myself, finding love, and beyond. I hope that people will think, wow, that song is about me, and I needed to hear that.On the same bill is Toronto comedy legend, Dawn Whitwell with newbie to the scene, Karine Kazan. Dawn told me that the number one reason to should see the show is because "I'm funny." Enough said.

Catch previews during the Gayla Gala launching this year's We're Funny That Way Festival.
