Rent Free is a new comedy film from director Fernando Andres. It’s about two losers who are trying to live rent free in Austin, Texas by constantly crashing on friends’ couches. They are charmless, but also pitiful, so they very often get to stay somewhere out of mercy. One of the guys, Jacob Roberts who is also a co-producer of the film, looks and acts a lot like John Ritter, with his rubbery lips and endlessly fascinating facial expressions, and the other guy is played by David Trevino. Both or one of them is gay or bi, I’m not sure because there is a lot happening in the movie and I wasn’t always paying attention. A lot of times the guys stay with couples who end up in heated arguments because of something the guys said or did. Sometimes it’s because one of them fucks someone in one of the couples. In the end, they hit the road, eternal vagabonds. Rent Free is only marginally funny, but I didn’t hate it. I just felt like it was spinning its wheels.
Rent Free will be available on DVD and VOD on Friday, June 27
