Around The Globe With Bianca Del Rio
16 Mar 2022
 - photos by Matt Crockett & Roy Haylock

If Joan Rivers and Elton John had an offspring it’d probably look a lot like Bianca Del Rio. But behind the gorgeous make-up and costume is the quirky Roy Haylock, a theatre veteran whose latest offering, Unsanitized promises a sensational experience of political incorrectness, mayhem and peppered with laugh-out-loud moments. Bianca is no stranger to the comedy stage having four previous sold-out comedy tours including the National Treasures tour (2015) featuring Lady Bunny, and Jackie Beat.

Bianca’s Del Rio’s tour schedule is so tight, she’s gonna need a gallon of KY to squeeze out any more show dates. United Kingdom, Latin America, Europe, North America, plus fifteen dates across Canada and expanding. Her tour is so packed, and as of press time, includes more than eighty concert dates, including two shows in Toronto at the three-thousand seat Meridian Hall on Front Street. What’s most impressive is that virtually every show sells out within days of going live, hence the need for lube and more dates.

In 2015, Variety magazine crowned her one of the Top 10 Comics To Watch For. also holds the title for first drag queen to headline at New York’s Carnegie Hall and London’s Wembley Arena which she earned on her recent It’s Jester Joke tour - eat your heart out RuPaul!

Best Of Bianca Del Rio (Compilation) | RuPaul's Drag Race

Speaking of RuPaul, most know Bianca from season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race, where she cleaned house and claiming winner. What you might not know is that long before her victorious win, she was already a decorated veteran of the theatre and arts world. She’s been costume designer, make-up, hair and wardrobe and her credits outside of Drag Race list like an Lady Gaga dress-train and include productions of Rent, Grease and Cabaret which is all in addition to her musical successes which include Sissy That Walk, with RuPaul.

Bianca also starred in her own Netflix feature film, Hurricane Bianca and on Hulu Hurricane Bianca 2: From Russia with Hate (2018) and the Logo original television specials Not Today Bianca. And if that’s not enough, New York Magazine crowned Del Rio the number one position in their list of the 100 Most Powerful Drag Queens in America (2019). Del Rio also just made her LA, West End debut in the hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie where she plays the role of Hugo/Loco Chanelle.

Bianca’s current tour promises glamour, comedy and of course her intentionally rude, crude and boundary-pushing attitude. This tour leave you in stitches and while the ticket prices are steep, her shows always deliver. Expect Bianca to be at the top of her game, delivering overtly over-the-top material that is intended to push everyone of your buttons.

Can’t go? Don’t worry, I’ll be at the March 23rd show and will bring back all the dirty details (pun intended)!
